This time next year as a second year student you'll be skint and will want your deposit back.

If you don't write down EVERY single detail about the place on your inventory form then they WILL withhold some of your deposit.

This place is alright if you know what you're getting in to. It's highlights are average, and its low lights are shocking. Moved in to mould all over the bathroom cieling. Mould also developed badly on the wall and behind the bed. The showers leak under the door, I've had water consuming 50% of floor space after a shower on more than occasion. The biggest thing going Storthes is people are there, although it was only half full this year. We weren't told about Castings or other places in town, LOOK AT THEM aswell as here. I was only aware of other places in town after I moved in and if I'd have known about them before I moved in, there is NO way I'd be at Storthes.

I decided to write a review after living here for 3 months. This was the first site that came up when I typed in 'Storthes Hall Review' so I assume a lot of people will use this site to make their decision. This review will contain both positive and negatives, I haven't been paid to write this and it is an honest review of my time here. I chose Storthes Hall Park after the university recommended it, and thought "if the uni recommends it they can't be that bad". After seeing bad reviews online I assume they're all a bit dramatic and I book anyway.

I'm currently in the normal £85pw room after bring told I was getting "the best deal" that I could by Digs. The rooms are supposed to be £95pw but because I booked in February it was cheaper. A couple of days after I booked they started to offer new bookers a gym pass, then not long after they gave out apple watches, HudLive passes and a free bus pass. So basically, I wasn't getting the best deal at all and was lied to.

Communication is a HUGE issue here. Less than 3 weeks before we moved in we were told that the flats don't have kettles, toasters and that fitted sheets wouldn't fit the beds as they are 3/4 beds. The rooms did in fact contain kettles and the beds were normal beds but we did need to get our own toaster. Two people in my flat even rung Digs and both were told completely different information!

The first weekend we arrived we were told it was free travel on the busses but we were charged £4 and had o locate the offices in Huddersfield in order to get it back. Every time the rent was due in it costs an extra 50p to pay for it because of line costs.

The Venue has only started selling food, yet do not have an allergy list which is a legal requirement. I have reported this and yet to hear back if they have added one. When asking for a vegetarian sandwich they put chicken on TWICE and then when I became frustrated I asked for one of the yoghurt pots which was two weeks out of date. At the start of the month we were given free meal vouchers but for the time they were valid the venue only served food for two hours a day.

Some of the flats contain TVs which the students were told they didn't have to pay the licence for, the TV flats are more than £100pw and that the licence came with the rent, the day everyone moved in they did a complete turn and said that that was false and they had to pay for it themselves. They also hardly empty the bins and there's rats everywhere.

If you like sleep, don't come here. This place is good for parties and I assumed it would have settled by the first month, but there's parties every night and security don't do anything if only a few students are disturbed. I'm currently living below a problem flat who run around the flat and blast music until 4am. When I've tried to discuss my concerns with Digs they're just like "we'll see what we can do" aka nothing. Also, there's drugs everywhere here so if you're uncomfortable with that that's also a reason to avoid.

This place does have a few positive points though. It's cheap, very social and a great way to make friends. The bus takes half an hour to get to uni but it's a minute walk from any flat to get to the bus stop and it drops you off right outside. The staff are lovely and quickly learn people's names, and I do love living with halls around a big group of people. It feels VERY safe here, you can walk around at night and know that you'll be okay because there's always people wandering around or coming home after being in town. I'm also thinking of staying here next year because it's so cheap and convenient for uni and I don't have to walk anywhere with my heavy books.

Please visit other accomodation before coming here, and if you can afford it please avoid it. If you're on a low budget, don't mind losing sleep and want an epic social life, Storthes is the place to be.

Storthes hall park is a great place to live, literally everything you could want and expect from living in student accommodation. Safe place to live, plenty of social life happening with comfortable rooms. only down side Is location, but with a regular bus service it isn't much of a inconvenience. Overall I would rate my experience at storthes as 10/10.

Despite all of the negative reception I've seen from storthes, I personally think it helped make the best experience of university.

The people I know who didn't live at storthes seemed to not really meet anyone besides their flat.

You really get to bond and meet hundreds of other students and make bare friends.

Also, I now wish I had a bus to take me to uni every day, because it's freezing and I really can't be bothered in the morning, miss chilling on the bus with my friends.

Plus it's bare cheap and you get more money to actually spend on living at university! Sesh

Storthes hall gives value for money and that first year uni experience you dream of, okay the place is not as new and fancy as other accommodations but life isn't about living with a silver spoon in your mouth all the time. What it did give me was great social opportunity and the chance to really learn how to look after myself in the first steps to becoming an independent adult. Also the social opportunities, parties people, a venue on site. From the first night of arriving my social reach multiplied as we all became a community and new a wide variety of people, many of whom have gone on to become great friends. With any place of living you may get problems but storthes were attentive and did what they can to help within their relms. Some people laugh that I lived there but I laugh back, as what I've gained and recieved from that place was more than just a 4 walls and a bed.

I stayed at storthes in my first year, the atomepshere was brilliant. The idea of a student village is brilliant I think and the venue was like our second home. However the rooms and the actual state of the flats are appalling for the amount of money you're paying for. Every other day there was always something that needed to be fixed or sorted out. Although most of the times it would be sorted out, there were the few times where it just got left. Then when it came to moving out you got charged for it. If it wasn't for the fact that enjoyed the atmosphere, I would have definitely hated living here.

Storthes Hall is the place to be! Provides separation from uni day but still has student vibes with over 1000 students living here it gives you a comfortable new home life. It's active with events sprinkled around on each month and is the centre of uni life! Clean, compact and safe it's a home away from home. Definitely recommend to stay!

Facilities are outstanding with washing and drying, free gym and The Venue with cinema room and upstairs study space along with its own dance floor and cheap drinks!

No complaints whatsoever, 100% recommended!

Location is my main issue- £2.50 to get the bus down after 9pm and then £6 for a taxi back on a night out it makes it very expensive before you've even got to the club.

Shop- so over priced.

Bus- yes they are regularly. Generally every 30 minutes. But I don't feel this is enough. You either end up having to be 30mins early or arrive with 5 mins to get to your lecture.

Storthes is defiantly the best place to be for freshers there was so many good events held on site. Would recommend it to first years.

I would defiantly recommend living here for first year, I think it is a great experience and compared to the other halls around freshers is certainly best here. For 2nd year onwards i'm not sure whether it is the right place for me.

Storthes Hall is a community. Everyone knows everyone and you are always within a couple minutes away from your friends. SHP is located a few miles away from the university but because it has its own dedicated bus service, you can easily get into town/uni in no time at all.

The new look Venue gives you and friends somewhere to chill out. With numerous TVs, games room, dance floor, small restruant and most importantly, the bar, there is always something for you to do.

The rooms are very spacious with an en suite. With all bills included in the rent, the price is unmatched.

SHP is a safe and secure village, predominantly housing first year uni students. Any maintainence, welfare or security issues are dealt with as a priority and every time I have needed any of the three mentioned above is dealt with in a professional case by case approach.

Just like anywhere, it does have its issues but as long as you report it to someone through the official channels, it will be sorted for you.

I definitely would recommend SHP to anyone looking for accommodation for university.

Storthes is in a great location in the countryside!! Bus to uni is very frequent and it's nice to have accommodation outside the town. The rooms are spacious and I like how all rooms are ensuite! Although there are no gates surrounding Storthes, there are always security on guards at reception. Value for money is ok, could be a little cheaper

There's plenty going on at this hall. The venue hosts lots of events including sport nights when they put on the football. There are activities and groups get involved making it really good for making friends.

The rooms are very standards, I didn't expect a lot but I did expect them to be a little better.

Buss pass is a good idea but takes 20 minutes each morning. That's 20 minutes of missed sleep.

The maintenance could be a bit more on point. We've had a few issues with brown water from the nearby reservoir drying up. There's also been a struggle to get hot water 3 or 4 times this month alone.

As it's outside town it actually makes it quite nice. There is a really good and active community in this hall so it's easy to fit in and be social yourself. You find your course mates spread all around and there's lots of events to bring the people together. The new venue which has been recently renovated looks really good and has new facilities. I pay £85 and for what I get back I consider it very good value. There's plenty of space for that and even fits a kings size mattress in the room. My light didn't work once but the management were very quick to respond and fix it. The location is great at first but it does get a bit of a hastle for trying to make it back and fourth between university, especially when you have a heavy work load. It is very isolated so there's no shops.

The area is nice but is a 20 minute bus ride. It can seem a little too far sometimes. People get along and it's easy to make new friends. The place is a bit old and sometimes falls apart. But what you pay for it does seem reasonable and the size is good.

I like the social environment, it's got things to do, nice facilities and the rest is all ok.

It's a great place to study from. The internet is free and works well.

I think there could be an improvement of the tidiness/cleanliness in general. When moving in things defiantly could have been better. There were finger prints on the wall. The issues I have had are small though and nothing majorly bad has happened during my stay here.

It's a good ensuite and a great price for what you get

We've had a few issues with brown water. It's basically dirty water coming out the taps.

If you want the social experience it really depends which block you get. Some are great some are not so.

The prices are reasonable considering the size of the room.

It is nice to be secluded and have the environment around.

It is a bit of a shame that it is 5 miles out and requires a bus every time but that kind of is worth it for the price.

Complaints do take a while to get registered.

(Original post by Paigehegarty)

I stayed at Storthes for my first year and I wish I struggled to pay extra to stay somewhere else. The place was falling apart, I left my room for a week to find out the ventilation in my bathroom was unsatisfactory as my whole bathroom was covered in mould. I have to wash my shower curtain twice in bleach because of the mould yet they left it in that state. Many people have had an investation of silver fish, and they won't do anything about it. My clothes are stained as the washing machine ruined loads of my clothes when it flooded yet I was told I'm the one who is meant to deal with the laundry company. The place is disgusting and people are rude and I would recommend you never stay there.

We was also told twice in the year that people from the outside were breaking into flats, they text us all and did no security developments to improve this.
