Academic house has been my home for just over a month now and it really does feel like a home. I am a postgraduate student with a busy schedule, when I was looking for accommodation the location really appealed to me as a place to come back, unwind and relax after studying, feeling like a little village in one of the biggest capital cities in the world.

Having lived in London for my undergraduate degree also, this is by far the best area which I have come across to live- with galleries, live music and a beautiful park with an outdoor pool on your doorstep. Plus it only takes me 30 minutes door to door to get to my university in South Kensington and the train is so quick to Victoria ( you also don't have the sweaty tube travellers folk and get a seat at rush hour!)

I really do love everything about the accommodation and having your own space with kitchen/bathroom/lots of storage and great desk is such an advantage. The rooms are really light, clean and modern and would recommend the halls to anyone!!

I love living here! The area is so lovely with many shops and a fantastic park.

The environment here is so friendly. Also Isaac (the manager) makes our life so easy, he's so friendly and helpful with all the students.

I would definitely recommend Academic House to other students.

Worth the money - for me!

3.5

Quality of rooms - 3 Fun/Atmosphere - 3 Location - 3.5
Safety - 3 Management - 4 Value - 3.5

I've lived in private halls throughout my university life and I can say that Academic House was one of my favourites. Cheap, calm and friendly staff made my stay there very comfortable.

The halls are much smaller than some giant housing blocks found in Central London, meaning overall, noise isn't an issue (although sound does travel in the building). A nice balance between postgrad and undergrads, as well as being slightly further out than other halls, brings some much needed peace and quiet (especially during exam season!).

That being said, the on-site manager was constantly hosting events downstairs for students who wanted to meet up and celebrate Halloween, Christmas or chill in the lounge downstairs. A fresher's meet and greet was also planned, for new students. The atmosphere was overall very friendly, but mostly subdued.

Herne Hill is decently located in Zone 3 of London, with direct links through London to Victoria and King's Cross by train, or by northbound bus to Euston through south London. The halls themselves are under 5 minutes away from the station (the bus stop is literally on your doorstep) and both a Tesco Express and Sainsbury's Local can be found directly next to the building. The area has recently gentrified so pubs and cafes are all lovely, if not a bit pricey. Decent bargains can be found if you travel 10minutes south walking though! The further out you go, the rougher it gets. The lovely Brockwell Park is nearby but at night, perhaps walk through with a friend just to be safe (as with all parks really!)

The only real cons of this place for me were the rooms. Although the studio was spacious, there was no oven to cook real food in (unless you were in a shared flat), no breakfast bar/table at which to eat and I had numerous issues with my key jamming in the door. Although the key issue was resolved promptly, it was frustrating for a new build to show wear and tear so quickly.

Furthermore, other halls I have been at had had more amenities - gyms, pool tables, dance studios, music rooms etc... But they were also far far more expensive. For a new student or lover of on-site leisure, this might not be for you.

In summary, friendly staff, good atmosphere, good amenities - but if you're not an independent sort of person, you can find rowdier more luxurious places in central (at a cost!)

My New Adventure

4

Quality of rooms - 4 Fun/Atmosphere - 5 Location - 4

Academic House is a lovely, friendly, safe and warm student accommodation located just outside Herne Hill station. This area of London is full of parks, local independent shops and stores that make the place lively and nice.

The accommodation itself is a new building with Tesco and Sainsbury's literally below the premise and it is a colorful warm environment. My room feels like my real bedroom at home. The wooden floor and the two windows make the room warm and bright. All the very essential facilities are in place, the bathroom is very practical and the desk is huge, I love having many shelves to put my books and notebooks. The bed is super comfy as well!!!

The view is stunning, from where I am I can see all Herne Hill and Dulwich, it does not feel like being in the overcrowded city centre and yet I am in London. Just get on the train and in 10 minutes you will find yourself in Victoria station: amazing!

If you study at King's College then this is the place to live whether you are undergraduate or a master student. If you study at London South Bank university this is still the place to be because thanks to the two buses, 68 (to Euston) and 468 (to Elephant & Castle), whose stops are just outside the main door (pretty cool, eh!) you will be wherever you have to or want to be in London.

The management team is simply wonderful, friendly and very easy to talk to. If you have a problem just talk to them and they will help you in every possible way.

Even if you feel homesick, just talk to them and you won't feel alone!

Academic House feels like home!

Happy here

4.5

I am so happy I chose Academic house because it's perfect for what I need. The location means I can easily get to central London quickly (the train station is a 30 second walk away, and there are bus stops outside the front door) yet it's quiet outside, and there's beautiful Brockwell park 5 mins away.

The rooms are expensive, yet I think they are very reasonable for London. I definitely think the decoration could be improved (there are paint marks on my floor etc) but, honestly, I love my room and I am happy to pay the price I pay for my rent. It's VERY quiet (I'm on the first floor) and you can't hear the rooms above, or next door, which I really like. There's a really nice roof terrace where you can meet other people & everyone is really friendly. I also really like how quickly everything is fixed here, which is due to the house manager (Isaac). If something is broken, he'll get it fixed quickly.

Overall, I recommend it here. I love my room, how quiet yet accessible the area is & I've had a good experience with CRM. Isaac, the house manager, has been a massive help and he's very friendly! You can ask him anything and he'll try his best to help.

Academic house is a great place to live in, the transport links are amazing and it's only 15 minutes away from central London. There is a lovely park here both for fitness and relaxation. Management is lovely, always very friendly and helpful. The pricing is very reasonably for a Zone 2 private accommodation, and has 2 local supermarkets, cash points, takeaways and a local market every Sunday.

Herne Hill is aa bit outside central London but a very sweet area with a few lovely pubs, a nice park, some shops and the train station right next door.

The rooms are clean and well kept, and of a reasonable price considering other accommodations in London and the fact that all bills are included.

The manager on site is very helpful and forthcoming!

Not worth the Price

Disappointed with the accommodation, the room sizes are pretty small and quite different from whats shown on the website (pics are misleading)....No beddings were provided to me which was disappointing as i had gone there for summer accommodation and had not expected this.....There is no attendant to look after the hall post evening time and on weekends, so you are there all by yourself....There is no student atmosphere or fun atmosphere as I rarely found anyone in the hall and there are no recreation facilities at all (not even a gym)... Location is quite away from central London.....They also created problems for me whiIe refunding the deposit amount....I found it not at all worthy of the high price they ask...
