The rooms are really amazing, accommodation is also placed in a fantastic area. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The couple of issues I have are as follows:

- not enough chairs in the kitchen/ some of them were already broken when we moved in

- not enough storage in the rooms, wardrobe could be a bit bigger and there could be more furniture to put all of our stuff in

- spin-able chairs would be good

- the rooms are a bit too expensive, we have to pay for for 11 months of rent when we only are living here for about 7 months, we also have to pay for washing machines and some student's loans don't cover their rent meaning that they struggle paying for everything.

All the staff were so friendly and helped very quickly whenever i had an issue. I love the large room, the pictures really don't do them justice and the large windows and views from either side are lovely. the only issues i have are the lack of stools in the kitchens and the fact that most are broken, also the amount of storage, There is only a wardrobe to hang my clothes in so i ended up having to buy under bed plastic storage, putting all my shoes down the side of the bed and stacking all my clothes at the bottom of the wardrobe

Danesgate house provides a modern, quality and great value for money accommodation. The refurbished interior is light and bright, giving it a pleasant feel. The rooms have good quality furniture however, more storage ie shelf for books is needed. The large flats mean that there are plenty of people to spend time with in the large communal kitchens. The best accommodation in Lincoln in my opinion. The loveliest reception team, so friendly and feel like part of a big family. Great location, near everything you need (high street/shops/uni/cathedral).

Great security, nearly always someone on hand to help, even late at night.

Only problem is the amount of storage in the rooms. More selves would be needed.

I'm living in Danesgate House next year because its that amazing.

Would 100% recommend to anyone thinking of finding student accommodation in Lincoln.

A home away from home

5

Quality of rooms - 5 Fun/Atmosphere - 3.5 Location - 5

I've lived at Danesgate House for three years and I can honestly say that it has been a lovely experience. I'm moving out in a couple of months when I leave university but I'm going away with a lot of memories which have made my university home experience worthwhile.

First of all, Danesgate is in a great location - ten minutes away from university, one minute from the city high street and the historic Steep Hill. If you have a room at the back of the building like I do then you're looking out on the beautiful architecture of the gallery and the gorgeous grounds which you can walk in, the Cathedral is in the background so you can admire the building which is spectacular in the evening when it is lit up - plus you can hear the bells chiming when your window is open which is wonderful to listen to. You're not too far away from the Arboretum either so there is plenty of outdoor space for you to walk in or relax and read in when it's good weather.

The rooms themselves are all modern because they have only just been renovated so everything is of a good quality, undamaged and shiny. I have a studio which is suitable for me because I like to live alone and have my own space. However, it's not lonely living here. I get my peace and quiet but I also have the opportunity to mingle with other people who live in the building. The management team in the office are very helpful, if you need any repairs doing they are done quickly. But more importantly, they are friendly. I've always been made to feel welcome and like my title says - Danesgate has become a home away from home.

The only negative I have for living here is that the studios are quite expensive on a weekly basis. However, if you look around at other student accommodations in the city you will find that they are roughly the same price but for smaller rooms. I shopped around a lot before moving here and I found that I was paying the same price on average but my studio is a lot bigger than the majority. So, it is expensive but it is worth it.

Honestly, I lived in courts for a year and I've lived in shared houses before and I do think that if you had the option of where to live you should choose Danesgate. I've been very happy living here and I'll move away with some great friends that I have made living in the building.

The best accommodation in my opinion, bright airy rooms and very nice en-suite. Very easy to get on with the staff, I have been here 2 years so will be very sad not to see them every day.

Spacious kitchens, plenty of space for everyone. All visitors have said how its nicer than theirs.

Only negative point, studio rooms have shelves but normal rooms do not, they would be very beneficial! I am aware there is a large spacious car park under the building, i think this would be very be good for both the students and the building itself, as the only car parks near us charge between £5-£10 a day.

Thank you :)

It's a very nice place to live during studying, perfectly placed in the center of town, right in between the two different universities in Lincoln. this also means that the night life is also conveniently placed nearby. The people who work and look after the place are nice and are easily available to help with all queries and assistance.

Lived here for three years and I can not fault it, the staff are amazing and are always happy to help they are very friendly and genuinely care about the the students. I have always felt safe in here as there is three doors to get through before you can get to your room. There has been many improvements to the building and security, just one problem is the water pressure on the higher floors.

...and that is where it ends.

Danesgate has a bad reputation amongst the university but it has recently been renovated and I couldn't fault it at all originally but after 9 months of living here I cannot wait to leave. The bedrooms are lovely, just the right amount of space and the en-suite is very modern; my only fault with the rooms is the lack of storage as there aren't really any shelves but most people buy plastic drawers and then it is okay.

The kitchen is very spacious and modern but it seems to be furnished to look good in photos and isn't really very functional, there is a GLASS coffee table (bare in mind students!!) and the bar stools break every time they fall over. I just don't think it is homely at all. Many people have said it looks like an office block and I agree.

Another bad thing is the unprofessional staff, they get too involved in students lives and this has caused certain people to have fall-outs and arguments. I think this is partially demonstrated by the social media sites which the place has.

Overall if you end up here, like I did, I would not feel disadvantaged but just keep yourself to yourself and pack lots of layers as they don't like putting the heating on!

If I had to sum up Danesgate House with a word, it would be "alright"

This place could be worse, but it could also be a lot better given the price. Firstly, the mandatory "connection fee" of £100 is ridiculous, given that the Wi-Fi here isn't even worth paying for (20 up/20 down) and cuts out quite regularly.

The building itself is very cold (at least on the floor that I'm on), and the heating times do nothing to mitigate the draft that's been present in our flat since we moved in (which we reported quite a while ago now). The fire alarms are an issue, too, be prepared to be standing out in the cold pretty often.

The renovation was very clearly done on a budget, the key word to this place is "functional", which is fair enough, but don't expect any creature comforts like comfortable sofas or anything of the like, because there aren't any. Room sizes also vary majorly. In our flat, even though we all pay the same, one girl had a room nearly twice the size of any of the others, while some people ended up with rooms barely big enough to turn around in. The hinges on a number of our kitchen cupboards have snapped off since moving in, and we're still waiting for them to be fixed. The ovens are also very small, and we were only given one oven rack per kitchen (works out as 1 oven rack per 5 people), so you can't ever cook more than one thing at once.

Do also be very wary of picking the larger flats. The lower rent might be appealing, but trust me when I tell you that you will almost certainly live with a few people who you really do not like, and once you're in, you're stuck in the flat for a year, as they don't like to move people around the building once everyone's moved in.

That said, this place is not all bad. The en suites, while small, are very nice, and the 3/4 beds will certainly make some of your friends in other accommodations jealous. The location, too, is excellent. You're a 5-10 minute walk away from the university, and slap bang in the middle of the city centre. Despite being right in the city centre, it's not actually that noisy, so don't worry about being kept awake at night.

The staff here are also lovely, both of the receptionists are always happy to try and help you, though their hands are often tied by instructions from the Head Office. The cleaners, too, are always smiling and will stop to have a chat with you after bringing up your mail.

All in all, this place is very flawed, and certainly not worth the ~£420 you're paying a month for the room. However, if you're looking for accommodation that's off-campus but still close enough to be practical, this is the one for you. The numerous things wrong with this place don't detract from the fact that it's still an "alright" place to live, so I can still just about recommend it.

Had a amazing time here so far, wanted to be off campus originally and Danesgate has been an amazing choice. You are always only a 30 second walk away from anything as you are very central only a 10 minuite walk to uni. Clubs are very close and never hear any noise both being a positive. The staff are also incredible, helpful chatty and will go out of their way to sort any problem that you have. Maintance is also great any problems are sorted immediately. Environment is also great. I have already pre booked for next year and would defiantly recommend to anyone!

This was my fourth choice and I feel so lucky that I was put in this location. It's convenient in most ways, although it's not right next to the Uni like other popular accommodations it is massively compensated by how its right up the road from the centre and a Tesco, the Spar downstairs and the the most popular clubs pretty much at your doorstep.

Rooms: awesome. Kitchen: awesome. Staff: awesome.

Rooms good - people not.

2.5

Quality of rooms - 5 Fun/Atmosphere - 0.5 Location - 4.5

First up - flats of 14 and above are way too big. It simply doesn't work, people do fall out and become extremely segregated. It may work in some cases, but it certainly didn't in mine. It makes you feel unsafe as you can never know who is coming in and out of the flat as there are so many people, therefore lock your doors at all times, even when you're only in the kitchen. There's also certainly not enough fridge space.

As for the rooms, they are a very good quality and I was pleasantly surprised. My room is fairly large and is en-suite, and so clean when I arrived, despite all the building work that was going on. There are regular cleaners for corridors etc. always walking around with smiles on their faces who also make an effort to say hello or chat.

Kitchens are also good quality (when cupboards aren't falling off walls, and pipes don't explode) but with so many people sharing this communal space don't expect your food not to get eaten. People WILL use your stuff and then not bother washing it up, and they will eat your food without replacing it. As for confronting them? Good luck finding them in the maze of your flat.

Overall, if you're looking for accommodation that is good quality and clean, Danesgate is for you. Though, if you're looking for somewhere quiet, away from the drama that we though escaped us at secondary school, do not live here.

I moved out after 3/4 months, it was awful. Staff would routinely enter rooms without student knowledge, permission or being present. Fire alarm testing is always done at around 2 or 3 in the morning with no prior warning. The lift is constantly braking down. After a week or so the ceiling collapsed and boiling water came poring from above, ironic since there never seems to be hot water for showers. Living here was like hell on earth. Don't do it people just don't do it.

Nearing the end of my contract here and I want to leave some advice for people looking for accommodation.

When I first got here, half the building couldn't move in because there was still scaffolding and building happening. I'd like to say it got much better after that, but it didn't really. Don't get me wrong, the rooms are pretty decent, especially for students moving out for the first time. Seeing as we all had brand new rooms after they redecorated, with new ensuite bathrooms, it's pretty good. If you exclude the windows that, for some people, don't close properly. And the water problems. And the really bad woodwork around the doors. If you excuse that, which I generally do, not half bad.

But there's been a few annoyances that really should've been dealt with quicker/better. Kitchens flooding/therefore ruining the ceiling of the floor below, cupboards falling off, internet/water switching off, the incessant fire alarms (don't even get me started on these). There's always gonna be complaints, regardless of where you live, but just bear in mind that this is an old building redecorated to look brill.

Also, remember this is STUDENT accommodation slap bang in the city centre. There is literally noise everywhere, at all times. Parties, clubs, drunk shouting, drunk everything. Buy some earphones.

But once you get past the noise and idiots you end up living with (trust me, there'll be a few), you realise it's a pretty good location for anything in Lincoln and that the views are actually pretty nice (above the 2nd floor, anyway). I'm a BG student so my main issue with living here is walking up the hill every day, but that's just how it has to go. Lincoln uni students don't complain too much about the walk to their uni (and if you do, cry me a river, it's 10 minutes down the road). The nightlife is brill and never pay attention to the horror stories you'll see online. And really, it's right next to the hill, with tons of gorgeous buildings. I do recommend walking up it and having a wander, there's so much to see, especially the castle and cathedral.

Overall, if you're worried about living here, don't be. Just be prepared. And try not to spend all your money in the Spar downstairs (I think they've forgotten what non-students look like). Enjoy it!

Overall, if you're worried about living here, don't be. Just be prepared. And try not to spend all your money in the Spar downstairs (I think they've forgotten what non-students look like). Enjoy it!
