I'm confused as to what the £250 deposit is for when there are issues with the paint in my room and the kitchen was a mess when I moved in. There had been lots of things left in the kitchen and even mouldy food. I feel like just because it's student accommodation they can get away with this. If was a house this would not be the case and you would get better service.

The rooms are spacious, great location and have nice decorations. The social room is not large enough, there is only one room and it's right next to the reception.

I just hope I don't loose my deposit seeing as it was clean when I moved in.

It's a really new hall so because of that I would say it's better than Prodigy Living's Aspley House.

Had a really great experience with the staff here. They are very sociable and nice. There have been lots of events which are always a nice thing to have. Apart from them being slow at fixing problems that have been reported it is a really nice place to live.

Needs to be more social

3

Quality of rooms - 4 Fun/Atmosphere - 1.5 Location - 5

There needs to be an improvement on the way students can socialize. At the moment there are not enough interactions between students and not enough opportunities for students to meet each other. One of the issues is that students are locked out of difference blocks (a, b, c, d).

Apart from that is OK, a really good thing about this accommodation is the distance to university.

I've been at the flats for a few weeks now but having difficulties to socialize due to the make up of the flats. There are lots of Chinese students and most of them don't speak English. My whole flat is like this and none of them speak English so it wasn't the student experience I was expecting. There have been some students moving rooms because of this.

I do have some neighbors near by that love rock/heavy mental music and that can be quite disturbing.

Apart from that the flats are quite modern and clean.

Not a trustworthy company

1

Quality of rooms - 1 Fun/Atmosphere - 2.5 Location - 4

I have lived at Saw Mill accommodations for 2 years now. During my second year the standard slipped dramatically. I lived in B block and the door to our block was broken from early January to the end of June making the flat feel far less safe. The massive security issues wasn't dealt with until I checked out. Anyone from the outside could have got to our front door with ease. When I asked if it was getting dealt with no one really knew about what was happening about it

One benefit of this accommodation is it's location to both the University and local supermarkets and takeaways. As many students live in the accommodation it is quite a vibrant atmosphere. These are the only 2 benefits I can think of to living at Saw Mill.

The quality of the actual building is cheap. Therefore when think break or wear and tear they are straight to charging students. I moved in when it was brand new and knew many like myself who were charged up to 80 pounds for a wall to be repainted. When i returned into a new flat the walls were re painted. Where did that money go? Right into Saw Mill's pocket so they could charge us all again and make more money until they had to paint it.

Did i not mention the bed bugs yet? C block got infested with bed bugs and instead of informing everyone they kept it quiet and told the other residents that the washing machines were all broken when in fact they were being used to clean all sheets and closed from all the residents.

I have been charged 100 pounds this year despite informing Saw mill that my walls were already mucky from the previous tenant. I did enjoy my time their only due to the people I lived with.

I do not think this is enough for me to recommend future students. The prices are now at an all time high and like me most students can't even afford it anyway.

From my experience I would totally avoid Saw Mill as an accommodation for students. It is not worth the hassle. In my opinion they are the type of student company that is only interested in one thing, getting as much money as they can out of you.

I enjoy living here

4

Quality of rooms - 5 Fun/Atmosphere - 5 Location - 4

Unite Students have created brilliant halls of residence at Saw Mill. The Accommodation offers a large common room equipped with a huge TV, game consoles, sofa's and beanbags. The board games they provide such as monopoly and frustration are my favourite! There is a pool table and a study room for those who would like to do group study etc. There is also an outside area where students can relax together on those sunny days!

In terms of my room I am very happy with the standard. It is modern and spacious with a double bed, with allowance to add your own personal touch. The kitchens are large with 2 ovens and 2 fridges as well as a corner sofa which my flat mates and I often sit on for a catch up or a flat meal! Saw Mill is located just a short ten minute walk from university which is convenient for all. Opposite there is a large supermarket, an off license, and several fast food establishments, perfect!

Safety is one factor my parents took into consideration when looking for somewhere to live. There is CCTV everywhere here and 24 hour security on site for everyone's peace of mind.

Overall I enjoy living at Saw Mill. The only negative comment I have is the value for money. The cost of living in Student halls is quite high. For the amount of money I pay each week I would like a flat with less people and more space.

Ideal Location!

4

Quality of rooms - 5 Fun/Atmosphere - 2.5 Location - 5

In terms of location, Saw Mill is ideal! across the road from ASDA, Greggs, Iceland, KFC, Subway, and a short walk to DW gym and the University! (Literally less than five minutes). Yes its slightly more expensive then the other accommodations but only slightly! so to be fair, if your gunna struggle with money here, your gunna struggle with money anywhere. However, UNITE do try and take you for all you have in terms of damages, they've used cheap paint so every time you touch it there will be finger prints/blue tac marks there forever, in which unite try and charge you £70 per wall when you check out even when there is only one tiny mark!

Although to be quiet honest i do think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, the rooms are updated and spacious and the location couldn't be any more ideal! so as long as you don't touch the walls in your room you should be fine!

its nice and modern ill give saw mill thar and its location is decent. However it is far too expenisive. Not only did the management lie about my flat and how many people id be staying with. They then tried to lie and say i misinterpreted even though i had a witness and the website said differently. The parties people have get shut down because of the noise. In my opinion if you dont like parties dont stop in student accomodation. The walls are not washable because the paint is crap and so no doubt that will come out of our deposit. one of the blocks managed to accumulate the other floors sewage , damaging a lot of property. The communal area isnt big enough. We were told wed have a tv in the living room.
Safe to say we havent yet got one.
The building overall was rushed to be built resulting in cracked windows, shoddy paint and craftsmanship.
For £116 a week im pretty sure i could pay for a mortgage.

Too Expensive for Students.

3

Quality of rooms - 4.5 Fun/Atmosphere - 3.5 Location - 5
Safety - 4.5 Management - 3.5 Value - 1

Saw Mill is the most convenient accomodation I've ever stayed at. It's a few minutes walk to the university, a few minutes to my gym in the opposite direction, not to mention it's opposite an Asda, Iceland, Greggs, KFC, Subway and a Lidl! And the accomodation is pretty decent quality and the staff are very friendly and willing to help any way they can. Plus there are table tennis tables and swing ball outside as well... it's a shame that the paddles and the table tennis balls have been stolen. However that's where the positive things about Saw Mill end.
The lauderette is WAY too expensive, it's £2.70 for a wash and £1.20 for a dry. The accomodation is WAAAAAAY too expensive, ESPECIALLY for students, I was nearly maxing out my overdraft in my bank account every term because of this stupid accomodation alone! I seriously do not understand how UNITE can expect the average student to pay for it all and still afford food and other essentials for the rest of the term. Unless you live off of mummy and daddy money you will most likely struggle. Plus, I had a major issue with the last term of rent, since UNITE have multiple accomodations across the country, different universities give their student loans out at different times. What makes it EXTREMELY stupid however is that UNITE didn't wait for the last university in the country to give out their student loans. So they tried to take god knows how much rent out of my bank account when I wasn't going to have my student loan for another week! On top of that I generally haven't had a nice, sociable experience with the people in my flat, they weren't a pleasure to live with.

If you're filthy sticking RICH, then you can afford this accomodation and I would recommend it. Otherwise, DON'T LIVE HERE! Unless you want to kiss the money in your bank account goodbye a couple of days into every term.
