As a company, Unite Students are terrible to students. Any issues with rent (which happen to everyone due to rent being due before student finance with this company) lead to massive dramas, harrasment and even intrusions into rooms. Furthermore, any issues and the company want nothing to do with you.

Pictures do not match what's advertised- those are probably their London locations with similar floorplans.

No heating in bathrooms of ensuite rooms, the floors are in a terrible state- stains everywhere, Did need to request for them to repaint all of the walls in my room when I arrived.

Most lighting is very dim and they do not replace them- You will need extra lamps and there are only 4 sockets

Gets really noisy at about 11:30pm and quiets down at 3am during the weekday so the best sleeping hours are from 4pm to 9pm

Kitchen has one refrigerator for four people which is not enough if you have four girls who all cook and the sofas are a mess. Oh and if the photos have a tv- there aren't any

Sure, 14 minutes walk to DMU, but it's not worth it. Open lot used for firework launching, fights and fights using fireworks which do hit the building occasionally.

The laundromat is a contract company and is very pricey 3.30 per wash and 1.50 per dry but they don't do the job

The saving grace? REALLY FRIENDLY STAFF

They just don't deserve to be dealing with all this

Great for first years!

3.5

Quality of rooms - 4 Fun/Atmosphere - 3 Location - 2.5
Safety - 3.5 Management - 4.5 Value - 4.5

I have a single room and it's quite spacious with a large desk. The en suite is also a decent size, admittedly the shower isn't brilliant but it's better than having to share!

The kitchen is also a good size with plenty of cupboard space, although it would be good to have a bigger fridge and freezer as one drawer per person isn't really enough. There is a funky smell coming from the sink that was there when I arrived but despite pouring bleach down it and having someone come to sort it out, although better, is still lingering, though this only seems totbe our kitchen. The lounge area could do with some new sofas as they are quite old and not the most comfortable.

The staff are very friendly and helpful and I've made some really good friends with my flatmates - there is one we don't really get along with but you're going to find that anywhere! I also have made quite a few friends from other flats here.

I've never felt unsafe here and although it's the furthest halls from DMU campus, it's still only a 15 minute walk, and when you compare that with Liberty Park which is right by it, you're paying a lot more for a lot less! It's also close to Morrisons and Lidl.

Overall, I would highly recommend Filbert Village as a hall for first years!

Huge Disappointment

Quality of rooms - 2 Fun/Atmosphere - 0.5 Location - 1.5
Safety - 2.5 Management - 2.5 Value - 1.5

for the amount you pay a week (I pay 109) you get hardly any bang for your buck. The walls are stupidly thin, so much so you can hear your neighbours snore or the flat next door shut a door. If anyone in your flat shuts a door your walls will shake. The atmosphere is ridiculous, it seems as if no residents here have any respect for people, I have to sleep with noise cancelling headphones in to get a half decent nights sleep. There is an apparent curfew for noise at 11 o'clock at night which is most certainly not enforced by the security. The first two weeks I was there, 2 events occurred, one where a non resident came in wielding a weapon and a second event where an apparent 300 people ran through the gate. These people are allowed in no questions asked but when my girlfriend came to visit she was turned away at 9 o clock at night. The flat I arrived in was dirty (complained about the curtains the day I moved in and after numerous responses we are still awaiting new curtains), my shower had no shower curtain or rail for it. To be fair to the maintenance team most issues were resolved regarding both our carpet and our oven. The wifi isn't great at all, for weeks i've had to disconnect and reconnect to maintain a decent connection, after contacting the internet provider who have apparently increased my internet strength no changes have been seen

Overall the rooms are a nice size with good facilities i.e. good storage room, good shower etc. But the decor is a bit plain and uninspiring.

I would heavily suggest to pay the extra few pound a week and live somewhere closer to campus and with a better reputation than Filbert Village

Don't Bother

Walls are ridiculously THIN. Hot water from the taps are put on when they can be bothered. Cleaning sometimes happens once every month if you're lucky, they lied about the whole every other week thing. Wifi comes and goes without warning. POWER CUTS. Only book if you know the people you are living with or you'll end up with people you don't get along with or people you SPECIFICALLY TOLD THEM YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO LIVE WITH. And even when you ask to move they lie and say they will find somewhere and get back to you. Washing is so expensive. Only good thing is that it's ensuite. That's about it. Really isn't worth the price tbh.

Spend that pound or two extra a week elsewhere.

I honestly wouldn't wish it upon anyone to have to live here.

I lived here for my first year at DMU, I booked on the basis of price and what it looked like online, big mistake.

Everything about the place has been done as cheaply as possible. The walls are paper thin, so don't expect privacy, if your flatmate is on the phone expect to hear both sides of the conversation with clarity.

Kitchen appliances are 'average' at best, how 5 people are expected to share one small fridge/freezer is beyond me.

The location compared to every other DMU halls is grim, being surrounded by wasteland, power station & carpark.

Water pressure is another massive due to it being frankly, non existent - so remember to set your alarm 10 minutes earlier for your morning shower.

Credit where it is due, the management and staff are consistently friendly & useful.

Unite Students as a hole is not the problem, after visiting friends in The Grange & Newarke Point they are of a much higher standard and better located.

Honestly - spend the extra couple of pounds a week going elsewhere.
