The Cube, Loughborough

If you fancy a quiet, spacious, comfort place to stay during your academic year, Cube must the best choice for you. Since I can't get a room in university hall, so I visited couple private run accommodations in Loughborough. Few halls in town are good, but the price is to expensive like £120 per week, while some is cheaper (around £90-100), the environment is not good and the room is pretty small. Although Cube is bit far away from town, but they offer free bus for students and you can do shopping in town at least twice a week. And Cube is close to gym in Holywell, and west hub building, just 15 minutes walk to there. I personally very enjoy the experience in Cube, staffs are super nice and kind. If you don't believe this review, just drop them a email and visit there, you will be impressed by the price and nice environment. My cube wasn't the priority choice when we consider location, but we finally chose it after the visiting.

The best accommodation in Loughborough for the money you pay. Clean, taken care of and well maintained. Staff is always there to help and is very friendly. Only down side is the distance to uni. It's perfect for engineering (15 min walk), but not so much for business (15 min walk plus bus ride or 45 min walk).

Most of lectures are in uni campus and closest area to the cube. The cube also close to a gym which I use on occasion and the M1. Rooms are big enough. Management extremely friendly.

I had a great few months at the cube. The staff are all really helpful and the rooms are great! Really good value too! Its a great place if you prefer peace and quiet over the madness of most student halls, but also has a good social side if you want it!

I've been staying at the cube Loughborough for nearly three months and so far it has been a positive experience. Rooms are at a reasonable size and they all contain en-suite. The bike storage area is particularly useful as it is a 10 minute walk from the accommodation to the engineering entrance of the University campus, so a bike is well recommended for those who decide to stay here. We are also given free bus passes to go into town to buy groceries and there is a bus stop situated conveniently outside which all buses head towards the town centre. Generally the area around the accommodation is quiet, just the slight noise coming from cars along the dual carriageway but its not too intrusive. The management team here is superb, special mention goes to Andy who responds to emails very promptly and he is willing to help if you have any problems during the stay.

Overall the Cube is an excellent accommodation. It's great value for money comparing it to other accommodation that are available. The quality of the rooms are very high and the rooms are big enough. Location isn't ideal but you can easily get a bike and will only take 5mins to Uni. However it does have a lack of atmoshphere but there are events set up ocassionally. Most things are very secure and haven't had many issues. Management team are very friendly and helpful. Only issue for me was this year we had to wait for the wifi to be set up and it was only finished by mid november and phone reception in room seem to be very poor but you'll be able to get some it you move around.

I have been living at the cube for the past few months of my first year, and I must say that I would give nothing short of 5 stars for the quality and maintenance of this accommodation. To start off with, the management team here at the Cube is fantastic, always easy to approach, friendly and make you feel at home and they even know you by your first name! Maintenance wise as well, Brilliant.. as all matters are attended to and fixed within a very short time and on short notice. Parcel delivery and collection is also hassle free. The rooms are very well designed with lots of space even in standard en-suites, and all fixtures are modern and very clean! The kitchen is also well fitted with lots of storage space and the TV in kitchen is a bonus. The accommodation overall is very pleasant, clean and modern. It is quiet at the Cube, so its perfect if you want to chill in your room and actually get work done! Also the laundry room is just downstairs in the common room, so its very convenient and practical! It is however located off campus and is about a 12 min walk to the Engineering side of campus, from where you can take the uni shuttle bus to get to other parts of the campus easily. Honestly you kind of get used to this and the free bus pass helps with getting into town with no hassle. However, getting a bike helps as this cuts down your time with getting to uni. Yes i do wish it was less of a walk to uni, but if your looking for somewhere off campus that's quiet, modern and welcoming The cube would be ideal. And I Must say that it provides you with value for money overall as the accommodation on its own is far nicer than on campus accommodation for a far better price!

Deciding on The Cube as my accommodation is one of the best decisions I've made for university. A short ten minute walk from campus and then you can just get the free shuttle bus around campus so the location is not a big problem. Really friendly management that makes our stay at The Cube all the much better. I knew that this was the place I wanted to be in next year after just a few days of staying here.

Being located off campus and out of town can sometimes be a problem. It is only ten minutes to engineering block but for any other courses it is much further. This can be solved by getting a bike, or by using the bus. Included in the price is a free bus pass so this provides a means of getting into town for grocery shopping. The Cube is an amazingly run private hall set just down the road from the engineering side of campus. I have lived here for the past few months and it was clear from a few days in that I wanted to stay here for the duration of my uni course. As a fresher I was worried about not being on campus but choosing to live at The Cube was the best decision I could make. I love the high standard of this accommodation. My room is large despite being a standard ensuite and the kitchen has plenty of storage and room for everyone to cook and chat at dinner time! If anything breaks or is damaged in the room, maintenance is seen to as soon as possible (in my experience the same day you report it) and there is usually no problem at all. There is loads of storage in the room so there's no need to worry about over-packing when you come either! The kitchen communal area is cleaned to a high standard once a week. The newly fitted wifi is fast and reliable. The bike shed downstairs means that bikes are kept really safe and, more importantly dry in the winter months! The staff and wardens are extremely friendly and are always around if you need something or just want a chat too! Any emails or messages are responded to really quickly and there's always someone to get hold of if you need help or assistance 24/7. A lot of prospective students (including myself) worry mainly about the distance that it is away from campus. However, it is a 12 minute walk (I have timed it) to the bus stop at Engineering where you can hop on and travel to anywhere on campus for free during the day. I recommend bringing a bike as it's really useful to get to campus even quicker than that and also helpful if you want to nip into town! The free bus pass that this accommodation offers is also a bonus for cold and wet days when you don't feel like walking or cycling. It's really not as far as it seems and you soon learn to love the walk to and from campus. Since I have arrived here there have been many events put on by The Cube and we sometimes host the occasional movie night in different flats. The Cube offers the best of both worlds as it's much quieter than living on campus (so no 4am wake up calls with people yelling outside!!) but just as fun if you like socialising and going to the SU or town! There's always someone to hang out with/something going on or, if you prefer to be more independent, the rooms are really quiet so it caters for everyone's needs. Freshers, don't be put off by the fact that it isn't on campus - I have had just as good of a fresher experience as those on campus but I have saved myself around £50 per week by living here! I would strongly recommend any Loughborough students to stay here as there really isn't any other accommodation that can offer you the standard of living for the price that you pay at The Cube.

As a first year engineer (insurance student), I booked a standard ensuite at The Cube. I have to say that I have no regrets by choosing to live here. Rooms are spacious and modern, staff are friendly and for £79 a week you can't go wrong as an engineer. It is a 14 minute walk to engineering but you could probably make it in 9 if you walk fast. If you cycle however, as most residents do, then it is a lot quicker. As of the date of this review, there have been a few updates to The Cube. There is now Wi-Fi installed at a speed of 20Mbps as opposed to the original 12 Mbps that we had before. The free bus passes have also changed to Arriva which is a much more frequent bus service than Paul Winson No. 4

Rooms are big and very neat. Having lived in halls last year and now living here, its much better and there are common rooms in each flat as well as a main common room, and the management are very organised and friendly, and only a 12mins away from the uni, even less with a bicycle. I might be staying here quite a while because its that good.

I lived at the Cube for one year and I really enjoyed it. The rooms are spacious and you get your own bathroom! The kitchen is modern and there is a good lounge with a big tv. The price is brilliant for what you're getting.

Having lived in various accommodations in the UK, I have to say this is the best. The management is very professional and efficient and previous residents have told me that it's so much more efficient now. Lots of events were put on for the new residents so we could all get to know each other, including pizza nights at the expense of the company. A pool table and table football, as well as TV are available in the common room so a social atmosphere is encouraged. The rooms are very big as are the kitchens. It's very good value for money. The basic internet is cheap, you could pay for faster internet but there's really no need because the base one is very fast. The maintenance man is very efficient, I reported a problem in the morning and he was there to fix it an hour later. All in all, a fantastic place to live! The only downside is there isn't any wifi but management has assured us that this will be in place in a matter of weeks. Definitely no regrets in living here!

Rooms are spacious, management seems very good so far and location is ideal if you wish to be close to good walks and its only a 15min walk to campus. One major problem is due to poor building design heat just builds up in the entire building, worse the higher up you are. Windows don't open much and standard temperatures on a 15c day will vary from around 28c on the ground floor all the way to 32c on the top floor, which becomes unbearable especially once you add in heat from computers etc. Temperatures have never been below 26c, even when outside temperature is around 4c. While I have been here (2 weeks) I'd say avoid this accommodation, especially if you are sensitive to the heat and will be spending a lot of time in your room (Studying etc). Its good value for money so if you are willing to make some sacrifices it might be ideal. Ensure you bring a couple of good fans with you, Portable air conditioner might be ideal if you have one. Internet is not included in the price, it costs £50 for 3 months on the base 12mbit package. £90 for 30mbit, £125 for 70mbit and a ridiculous £270 for 100mbit. So be sure to add these to the weekly rent when judging its cost. If they added additional ventilation throughout the building, especially at the top. This would be excellent accommodation and could quite rightly warrant an extra £15 a week rent per room. Personally I would pay an extra £30+ a week for accommodation elsewhere, purely because of the heat issue. So if your booking here, do ensure you can tolerate 30c temperatures without any breeze. Avoid top floor at all costs if you don't want to be constantly sweating and getting irritable just sat at your desk.

I have lived in student accommodation for 4 years with no issues, until this year. It has been the worst year of my life due to the horrendous living conditions at The Cube. For a start I had no hot water for SIX MONTHS. I made management and maintenance aware immediately and after a few plumbers came out they just gave up. The manager went away for a few months and so nothing at all was done to fix the water in this time. I had to use other people's showers for months. The internet connection in my room had been disabled by Ask4 the internet provider and it took me, again, over six months to get this resolved. Ask4 refused to come out and fix it and the manager refused to try and contact them. When he eventually relented and called Ask4 this was fixed within 24 hours so I have no idea why it had to drag on for so many months. The wardens are never actually at the accommodation. I know of multiple people who have accidentally become locked out and just ended up stuck outside in the cold for hours because the wardens aren't picking up the phone or decided to go on a shopping trip to the next city. The fire service has also turned up after alarms were triggered and been unable to get into the flat in question because there was no warden on site. The management at The Cube is the most shockingly unprofessional service I have EVER come across in my life. I have experienced harassment and bullying within my flat which eventually led to me moving out early and living elsewhere, paying for two sets of accommodation, as I was too scared to go into my flat - the manager outright accused me of lying about this and refused to take any action at all. Higher levels of management refuse to respond to any emails. I emailed them regarding my lack of hot water on multiple occasions when the manager was out of the country for months with no replacement and all these emails were completely ignored. People are constantly harassed for money which has already been paid because of a useless accounts department and a manager who can't be bothered to check facts before harassing students for extra money. Maintenance issues are never dealt with, light bulbs are never replaced. It is common practice to backdate letters informing you of room inspections so it appears you have had the required notice when in fact you haven't and management don't bother to turn up when a room inspection is arranged and then insist on doing it at their convenience another day. During check out we were told that if we didn't organise a room inspection with a manager with at least 48 hours notice then we would concede ANY deductions from the deposit they wanted to make, despite the fact the manager had been on holiday for over a week before and after the end of check out so it was impossible to book an appointment. The post is a constant issue, management turn up as and when they feel like it and so post is often missed. When managers take holidays no replacement or cover is organised and so post is missed. The post is always put in the wrong letter boxes and there are no spare keys to the post boxes so if someone in your flat takes yours - bad luck you won't get your post again. The buses which you get passes for run very irregularly, are never on time and every few months they cut down their timetable further so you can't rely on them to get anywhere. Just don't live here. It appears cheap and yeah the rooms are quite nice but if you have bad luck or anything goes wrong it will just be hell.

I've lived at The Cube for 4 years as it's the perfect location for my course, modern in design and cheaper than most student accommodation in Loughborough. All bills, including internet are included in the rent so you don't have to worry about usage. It's a 20 minute walk from campus and the number 4, 126 and 127 go past the bus stop right outside regularly. You can get free bus passes for the number 4 (Paul Winson) from reception, you're allowed 10 overall. The rooms are a decent size and the living areas are spacious. I have felt extremely safe living here and have found that the managers, community ambassadors and managers have always been happy to help and assist with any queries or problems. It's fairly quiet which is great if you choose to work a lot at home. The social aspect of The Cube is what lets it down but it depends what you're after. I hear they will be improving the social events and they will be more frequent next year. Overall, this has been a great place to live and I don't feel I have missed out not living in the centre of town.

The Cube is a well kept student accommodation. Much cheaper than halls. The Cube is quite literally the perfect accommodation in what it provides however the location is why the prices are comparatively cheap. The Cube is great for engineering and maths students as it is only a 10min walk from the Cube. For all other subjects you need to either set out early or walk to engineering and catch the free shuttle bus (you'll need to show your student card) You have to get a taxi or bus to town. You are given a bus ticket but these buses often come late and finish early so the ticket is hardly used. Ordering your groceries to be delivered is the norm but can be avoided if you are prepared to walk 40mins (one way) to the Tesco in town. The atmosphere is only fun if you live with lively people. People that live here are quiet in generalw
