University of Derby, established as a university in 1992, has its main campus spread across four sites in the city: Kedleston Road in Allestree, the largest site and home to the main library and student services; Markeaton Street, home to arts, design and engineering; Britannia Mill; and One Friar Gate Square, which houses the law school. The university covers business, computing, law, art and design, engineering, health sciences, education and the social sciences. Find student accommodation close to campus on Hallbookers.
Allestree, in the northwest of the city and close to the Kedleston Road campus, is one of the most popular areas for students, with easy walking and bus access to lectures and a quieter residential feel. The city centre suits students who want to be close to the Markeaton Street and Friar Gate Square sites, with frequent bus connections to Kedleston Road. Darley Abbey, north of the city centre along the River Derwent, is a quieter option popular with students looking for a more residential setting within easy reach of campus.
Derby is a compact city where most student areas are well connected to the university campuses by bus. The Kedleston Road campus is served by several routes from the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. Derby railway station has direct services to Nottingham in around 25 minutes, Birmingham in around 35 minutes, and London St Pancras in around 90 minutes.
