University of Hertfordshire, which gained university status in 1992, is based across two campuses in Hatfield: College Lane, the main campus with the Students’ Union, learning resources centre and principal teaching spaces; and de Havilland, home to the Hertfordshire Sports Village and additional teaching departments. The two campuses are around a 20-minute walk apart, connected by a free shuttle bus. The university covers business, law, creative arts, education, health and medical sciences, physics, engineering and computer science. Find student accommodation close to campus on Hallbookers.
Most first-year students live in university-managed accommodation on the College Lane or de Havilland campuses, with over 3,000 bedrooms available across both sites. Returning students typically move into private housing in Hatfield town centre, around two miles from the campuses, or in the surrounding residential areas close to the university. St Albans, around ten minutes away by the university’s Uno bus service, is a popular alternative for students looking for a wider range of amenities.
The university’s own Uno bus service connects both campuses with Hatfield town centre, St Albans and surrounding areas. Hatfield railway station has direct services to London King’s Cross in around 25 minutes.
