Will try take your money any way they can. Charged Β£80 to replace a fob. charged over Β£100 for broken springs in a mattress, Β£100 for putting blu-tac on the walls and another Β£100 for holes in the wardrobe which were already there on arrival. DO NOT STAY HERE. The rooms are gloomy and feel like prison cells. For nearly Β£200 a week this is the worst place you can stay in any city. Management team are also rude and unhelpful. Furthermore they tried to tell me I was responsible for finding a new tenant when I decided to live elsewhere the following year. SCAMMERS. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. Only part I can commend is the kindness of the nighttime security.
I am currently a second year student living at Manchester Student Village. Before me and my 3 flatmates (all mates) lived our flat, we reviewed a few different types of flats. We concluded that we wanted a flat with a couch/chill area, to which we were guaranteed upon our agreement. However, this was not given to us when we arrived and consequently are living a full year pre-ing and chill in each others bedrooms. It is not just the room that is an issue. Firstly, the washing machines are terrible. Unreliable, inconvenient and expensive. The circuit company that owns the machines overcharge and when the machines commonly breakdown there is little communication, leaving it up to yourself to find out it doesn't work once they have taken your money. Our kitchen is very narrow and has no windows. Meaning anytime you cook food you are left sitting eating it whilst sweating, unless you eat in your room. As well as that, the fridge is either mild or freezer temperatures, nothing in between. The 'free' gym is worth its value. It literally has 4 machines and is very small, so don't be fooled that you will be in there everyday when you wont. Most importantly, the social aspect is poor. Not to be on the nasty side of things, but a lot of the students here are just...weird. You can't invite people over for flat parties because there is virtually no room to have them and people love to moan if you have semi-loud music on at anytime. There are some positives about MSV, including location and safety, but I strongly advise that you live in proper university student halls or find a private flat in Manchester city centre area. It's built up to be a great place to live and looks great on paper, but it does not live up to that standard whatsoever.
Rooms are suitable for a typical student lifestyle all faculties kitchen, bathroom all up to stated weed and the security fits all needs, it's also close by to most amenities I need to get too
Near all the facilities I need, buildings are worth the money great atmosphere great rooms
Close to uni - Recently refurbished
MSV has a perfect location just off Oxford road but apart from that they are rubbish ! Don't waste your year or money staying here ! The staff are useless and are not willing to help you at all ! Maintenance take forever to fix things with me being without a kitchen sink for over a week this year and without a front door for 3 weeks after a group of people went round kicking down flat doors ! They tolerate bullying so if your having trouble with a flat mate like we did in our flat don't bother asking staff for help even when your been threatened by people in your flat ! It is extremely over priced for what you get and overall a waste of money! I feel that I could have had a much better experience of first year being in other halls !
This place is utterly diabolical. The staff are extremely rude and do not reply to e-mails and other inquiries. The maintenance staff take weeks to fix things. The quality of the appliances and facilities are old and cheap. The walls are extremely thin and there is constant noise. The location is very handy, however, there are plenty more student accommodations in the area. If you have the opportunity, take your money and go elsewhere.
I've never personally had any problems living here. I am in my second year and have applied to live here again next year. Its in such a good location, only a ten minute walk into city centre or to the universities. The only downside is the lack of communal space, it does feel a bit lonely and quiet at times as most people choose to stay in their rooms, although it is easy to make friends if your flatmates are friendly. The rooms are of good size, you could have a single or double bed, even though I'm in one of the smaller rooms, I still have enough space. As for the staff, I have found them very friendly and willing to help whenever you need them. In saying all that, if I had more money I would probably look at other places to live, but if you are living on a tight budget MSV definitely isn't the worst place you could be living
I have lived here for two years and really hated it. It's good value for money with the location etc but if you can afford to stay anywhere else I would definitely suggest doing that. Everything is incredibly cheap and breaks constantly, the maintenance people take weeks to fix anything. Last year I went a whole month without hot water despite complaining everyday. The staff are rude. They are litterally in it to make money and nothing more. Go to new medlock or vita if you can afford it.
