The Rackhay, Bristol — non en-suite rooms in the city centre, just off the waterfront
The Rackhay student accommodation is on Queen Charlotte Street in central Bristol, just off the waterfront. It is home to 115 University of Bristol students. Rooms are non en-suite, so residents share a bathroom, kitchen and lounge with flatmates. The rooms were fully updated for 2026 with modern furniture and finishes. The Rackhay forms part of the University of Bristol’s Riverside residence. As a result, students here share social spaces and events with the two neighbouring buildings.
Important: The Rackhay is one of three buildings that make up the University of Bristol’s Riverside residence, alongside Favell House and Waverley House. The University allocates rooms under the Riverside residence, so it contacts eligible students directly rather than through Hallbookers.
Rooms and shared spaces
All 115 rooms at The Rackhay are non en-suite. Residents share bathroom, kitchen and lounge areas with their flat. Away from the room, there is a large common room with a pool table and table tennis. There is also a communal study space. As part of the Riverside residence, students can also use the social spaces and events at Favell House and Waverley House. This gives a larger community than the building’s own size suggests. In addition, all bills are included, along with Wi-Fi, contents insurance and 24/7 on-site support.
Living in central Bristol
The Rackhay sits in the centre of Bristol, just off the waterfront and within walking distance of the University of Bristol campus. A convenience store is directly opposite. Meanwhile, the bars of King Street are right around the corner. St Nicholas Market, known for its independent food traders, is close by too.
