Willowbank, Glasgow

While the place looks and feels great, it could be just as good as any privately owned accommodation such as a flat or studio. I would advise any student to opt fo rthose or university halls as 1- they are at least cheaper 2- they don't advertise themselves as student halls falsely. The managemnt appears to be supportive generally but will not really do anything if you are in a bind, they don't have a security guard 24/7 compared to other student accommodations and will charge you up to 37 pounds for any lockout! Doors lock automatically for "safety" but they let people who aren't students live here and bring in other people to party late and make loud noises. So I didn't really understand what the whole point of booking a private student accommodation was. The worst thing about all of this is that Willowbank especially has the worst fire shut door system that is implemented in a way where you can hear studios and apartments next to you if someone opens or shuts their door, because it slams really hard. Their execuse was safety. While other student accommodations has just safe enough doors without all the hinderance. Walls are paper thin and you will hear almost everything next door if people aren't whispering. I know that some people even complained about hearing footsteps whenever the person in the studio next to them walks. So while the interior is pretty new and nice, it can never be a good trade off for the details of living in this place which haven't been thought of very well, in the long term, it will affect you. For the price you're paying for a studio here you could probably find a great apartment for a better price and somewhere that wasn't designed to be smaller than a rat's hole, I know that all of my friends including me will not be renewing our contracts for next year and will hunt for our own apartments.
