University in Exeter
University of Exeter, a member of the Russell Group since 2012, has its main Streatham Campus on a hillside north-west of the city centre, covering business, humanities, sciences, law, engineering and social sciences. St Luke’s Campus, just over a mile away on the east side of the centre, is home to the medical school, sport and health sciences, nursing, allied health professions and education. Where do students live in Exeter
Pennsylvania, immediately north of Streatham Campus, is the closest student area to campus and one of the most popular, with a high concentration of student housing around Pennsylvania Road. St James, between Streatham and the city centre, is another established student area, with shared houses and managed student rooms. Mount Pleasant sits between both campuses, making it a good choice for students who use both. Newtown, Heavitree and St Leonards, east of the centre, are popular with St Luke’s students. St David’s and St Thomas, across the river, tend to be more affordable but are further from both campuses.
Getting around Exeter
Exeter is a hilly city, and routes between student areas and Streatham Campus can involve steep climbs, so it is worth factoring this in when choosing where to live. Stagecoach route 4 is the main bus between Exeter St David’s station, Streatham Campus, the city centre and St Luke’s, running every 12 minutes. On Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights, the UNI night bus links student accommodation with the city centre. Exeter St David’s railway station has direct services to London Paddington in around 2 hours 30 minutes and to Bristol in around an hour.
