Great atmosphere, great location and friendly staff
it's a safe warm home to be had in a central area which gives you a chance to get to know the city. The washing facilities suck as there are only 5 washers and 5 dryers and there's over 200 people in the building. The staff on reception are always helpful and there 24/7 to receive packages and help with what ever. The rooms are a little small which makes it quite hard with being on a creative course. Along with this the rooms are terribly hot... summer is unbearable. The kitchens are well equipt. There's 2 fridge/freezers and kettles, toasters provided.
Glassyard building is a great location for students studying a Chelsea, Camberwell, LCC, and LCF. There is a good range of amenities nearby, and it's a good location! The building is very safe. friendly security staff that work through the night so you always have someone on call to answer any question! The glassyard staff are very friendly and accommodating. I have stayed for 2 years so far and I have felt at home and very safe thanks to an amazing team
I'm glad I made the decision to live here, I've met all my best friends living in halls and the management are so friendly. It's a fun place to live and the location is really handy.
I've been living in Glsssyard Building since my first year of uni. It is s great student hall with friendly and awesome stsff. It is amazing for UAL students, especially LCC students. Really easy to travel to both elephant and castle and pimlico.I am currently doing MA in Westminster and I still feel it is the best student hall I have ever lived in.
When I moved in there were a few issues with the turnaround of the rooms but these were solved. Reading the previous security related reviews before arriving I thought 'what the bloody hell have I got myself into' happily any security issues have been sorted and the current security team are always present on evenings and weekends and I feel like I live in a safe and happy environment. The reception and maintenance staff are excellent and go above and beyond their responsibilities to try to make everyone's life as easy and pleasant as possible. The management have been on a fairly regular rotation which has caused some issues particularly when issues haven't been passed on to the new one but the current (as of march) manager seems to be fairly on the ball and nice. The location is excellent for me as it's 2 stops on the tube from my uni. To summarise, it's not perfect but it is very much a homely building.
If you plan to staying here, i would suggest you to look somewhere ease. I have spend around 245 pound per week living in en-suit room. The good thing is it is a brand new accommodation so you can imagine the room is quite new. At first i think its price is acceptable comparing to the room i have especially in London. But in fact it is not. You can spend a few more money to get a better room-eventhoung it might smaller,better atmosphere that this. The worst thing in this place is management team some of them are fine but the other are not. Living here will provide you a good experience such as washing machine break down at least once a month, water leaked in your room where they will clean your room with put any reimbursement, or MAINTAIN FIRE ALARM every tuesday for SIX TIMES. This is the worst thing in my life. I am here to study so i need a time to revise, yet every tuesday i have to suffer with the fire alarm which will ran six times in a row-SO DAMM ANNOYING !!.I have no idea why they have to ran it six times every days so ridiculous-my former accommodation is not. So if you are looking to see the room, my suggestion is go to somewhere else fist. if there is no better place that this, come and see by yourself but please please avoid the manager named 'Rochelle Mackey '
I had many problems in my room, especially with the heat which was unbearably toohot !!! Even in winter I had to get undressed when I was back from uni. The absurdity is that I've been paying the highest price for the largest and "best" room. The tiny opening of the window just let me breath enough to survive in that room which is quite big. That room is the most expensive, whereas I didn't have anything more than the others living in smaller studios (except from the space) but actually, less than them !!! : no oven, no iron, no iron table, no vacuum. - The mattress is so bad that I had to buy a mattress topper - Not any storage in the building to put things that you think them useless (too many chairs and sofas in my studio) - Lifts always broken, as well as the machines from the laundry - Again : a VERY VERY VERY BAD air condition!!! It was so hot, that the air was very dry and I got some blood circulation problems every morning. I had to buy an humidifier. - The reception is unstable with employees leaving their job and getting replaced by new ones every time. Also, it's not open long enough in the day (from 9:30, sometimes 10am!!! to around 5pm). The employees do not really care about your problems, and not even answer to your mails. - The location is bad. You have to follow the long Stockwell road to get to Brixton, which is very poorly attended... gangs of drunk men looking at you like a piece of meat, at every hour of the day and night. - Stockwell is empty, nothing to do there except from getting attacked by old people under drugs. - Security by night is not so good, it depends of who's working. Positive points : A good handyman always happy to help you in a short delay A Costcutter just down the building The location of the underground with a crossing between Northern and Victoria Lines Communal areas very big, clear, nice.
As current resident of the building and visiting many other UAL accommodations plus many more halls of residence across the country, I feel this building stands out more than any other. Looking through other peoples reviews on the building upsets me to see it displayed in such a negative light. Understand there have been been a few issues within the building (But what can you expect from 300+ people in a brand new building) but these issues have been dealt within a polite and respectful manner. There is no doubt in my mind that any issue which has arisen within the building has been dealt with in the most punctual and appropriate way. As a current UAL student I feel these halls offer a good social environment as well as top quality accommodation for the price and the university as a whole. I understand why some residents are upset which is apparent from their comments on this page but the management from my view has done everything they can do to resolve issues. I cannot speak for individuals personally but halls are never going to be absolutely perfect as no other property you dwell in will ever be. Some residents have used this page to vent certain stigmas against the property and it's management but I speak on behalf of many happy and content residents that the Glassyard is a fantastic place to reside. Overall the bedrooms from shared to studio are clean, sleek and modern. The location is perfect as it sits on the two most connected lines on the network and the atmosphere is immense. If you end up in this building make the most of it. Brilliant experience overall and best of luck.
Nice room with full facilities. I got it for 160 pounds/week which is a nice price with a en-suit room and shared kitchen. The building itself is nice, they provided mostly everything (e.g. washing machines, dryer, Costcutter near by, etc.) The location is good, it is 2 mins to bus stops and 7 mins from tub station and it is really near to the big road. Despite the washing machine is always broken down, sometimes no hot water during the winter, and the managers are too nice to manage to shut the flatmates off when they play freaking loud music constantly every day and night!
Not worth the soon to be £170 a week. Everything broke every other week, there were floods, lifts breaking, extractor fans breaking, excessive amounts of heat (always just told to 'buy a fan') and things falling apart due to poor workmanship and cheap furniture. Just now there is now electricity or water due to the building lacking a backup generator and failing to protect the original generator from floods caused by thunderstorms, it's been over a day now. There are also excessive amounts of noise throughout the night if you're unfortunate to live out on the front of the building due to a rather questionable cafe across the road which usually involves drunk and rowdy men from 12 onwards getting drunk and often harassing young women. I would personally not recommend the area as it can regularly be quite unsafe. The only plusses are the comfortable beds and en-suites and being quite central and easy accessible.
Great place to be! Lovely people and wonderful location 10 mins away from the center of Brixton with the market and lots of pubs. Also Clapham is just 20 mins away on bus, or Clapham North 15 mins walking.
