Chapter Kings Cross is a total swindle. Totally horrendous and miserable place to spend first year.
I would like to choose a word which have worse meaning than "The worst accommodation ever" because this accommodation is offering service with no quality standards and taking money just for free. Still not okay with anything living here.
The place is priced as a premium residential area for students, but it's dirty, the staff is unhelpful and rude. And now they don't even want to give me my 3k+ deposit back. Honestly, for the prices you are paying for any type of Chapter room or suit..you can definitely find a lot better. Stay away from this place. Nothing good will come out of living here.
The staff is truly evil. They are extremely mean and unaccommodating. The prices are insanely high. Do NOT share a room here, it will be far too small and unhygenic for two people. Simona is really very rude, she will make you cry every time you speak to her about a concern.
I must say, I am highly disappointed with this accommodation. I will start from the beginning. I booked with Chapter with the thought that their exorbitant prices (500 pounds per week) would translate to a high-quality accommodation. When I entered my room, the floorboards were creaking and had risen due to prior water leakages, the bathroom was so dirty I almost vomited, and my bed was thrown into this tiny corner with no space to walk around or put a side table (which I had to buy myself). The walls around the bed were black and the paint was chipped; lastly, there was almost no ventilation and light in that room. At night it felt like a damp basement room. In conclusion, the room was way too highly-priced and the price did not match the quality. Furthermore, you had to walk through the garbage area to get to the laundry room. If I had known that, I would have never booked with Chapter. It is a small detail, but one that caused a lot of discomfort. During the unexpected lockdown in the UK, Chapter closed all its amenities and after so much dilemma and pondering, they decided to only refund us 300 pounds worth of vouchers. Not even a cash back for such a petty amountโwhen compared to the rent I actually had to pay.

The cost of Diamond student is ยฃ500 a week. Totally not worth the price. No Natural light in the room. The bed is stuck between two black walls, horrible . You need to go through the garbage area for Laundary, disgusting. Unethical management on the top. Due to covid such circumstances came up that my daughter is not even living in the room since 10 th december. We requested to terminate the contract after paying the 2nd instalment on 10 January since my daughterโs is doing online and we are going back. Since 10 th december she wonโt we even living in the apartment and not due to our fault, but due to circumstances created by covid. No unethical management deserves to flourish in business. Big ?to Chapter accommodation, second for quality and first for unethical management. We must stand against people who make unethical choices in crisis situation.
Honestly it is located in a great place and the building is amazing. But the staff and management can come off as rude as they approach situations with the wrong attitude. Some of the staff members are great and make you feel at home, others just tend to ruin your mood and make you hate the place you live in.
Pros: 1) many grocery shops around the block 2) close to kings cross station and other bus stops 3) has a gym 4) not carpetted inside the room Cons: 1) maintenance are extremely slow: I've reported some requests to be done. The maintenance only came once to fix it but didn't for the next 5-6 times. The requests were done online, and even if the problem hadn't been fixed, they'd still put it as fixed. I once reported for the lights in front of my room to be fixed because my room is sort of in an alley. They came knocking on the door and asked to see the lights, so I said it's the ones in front of my room. He just said 'ah, okay thanks', but the lights were never fixed. Also, even if they do come, it takes a really long time. 2) very unfriendly staff, especially the women: Last year I came as a guest for a week and I forgot to return the guest card that was used to enter the building, and the card only worked for that week. A month later I returned and the card wasn't working anymore so I asked the lady at the reception to fix it for me and she asked me how long have I had this card for. I told her a month and she just looked really mad like the kind that a teacher would give a student when the student did something wrong. She said 'you're not supposed to have this card for that long'. She looked really concerned, and that worried me a lot. This year, I'm a resident here and I walked up to the reception to ask for a card for my mum, and the lady was on the phone, and the other staffs were all busy helping other residents. So I stood there waiting, and then the lady just said to me 'are you alright?' and so I asked her for a card for my mum, and she looked at my mum and said 'um yeah sure', like she didn't want to give my mum a card. very unfriendly, I worry every time that I have to talk to them. On the other hand, the male staffs are mostly nice and relaxed. They're quite loosen up about the rules. 3) guest has to sign up and can only stay for 9 days per week: I find this very inconvenient, first you have to register the guest at the computer, and then show the receptionist their ID card, and they'll ask you how long they're staying for and the card will only work up to that day. The card doesn't give the permission to enter the building (which I don't mind), but sometimes my mum wants to stay for longer than 9 days since she'd flown from a country that's really far away. The male staffs are not as strict as the female ones. They're really kind and nice and funny. 4) collecting a parcel: You have to check your mailbox youself for a paper that has your name written on it. That will tell you have you have a parcel then you have to bring that paper to the reception and they'll give you your parcel. I don't know how this works but I think you can only collect your parcel at certain times of the day, which I don't understand the point of. I once went to collect my parcel at around 8pm and the receptionist just said I had to collect it on the next day. 5) room: I picked silver corner because I thought that I'd be getting a bigger room for the same price, but no. You get a single bed instead of a double because it's a corner room, and the overall size is basically the same. Same toilet size, same everything. One reason that I picked corner is because you do get a bigger sink (square one) whereas in normal rooms you get a circular sink that barely fits anything in (1 bowl would be full). Although one advantage of this room is that there's a wall between the kitchen and the bed, so the smell doesn't really go to the bed, but the heater is placed close to the door, and hence faraway from the bed. So it is pretty chilly around the bedroom. The toilet is really horrible, the flush is way too strong that you'd have to close the lid every time you flush, and the button for flushing is right behind the lid so you'd still have to bring the lid down to flush it. The bed is sooo uncomfortable. I unfortunately got an old bed, so when I sit on it for a while, it remains sunked in forever which has caused me backaches. The bed is also very springly. 6) lots of construction going on: This year there was a lot of construction going on. It doesn't affect me much but I think it definitely counts as a con. They will be replacing the carpets with wood or something, and so I won't be able to access my room from 10-3pm on that day. 7) smoking: it's a non-smoking building but when I leave my room I often smell someone smoking. I think they should check this more often to ensure no smoking. 8) expensive
As a student, I was initially excited about living at Chapter King's Cross because of its proximity to central London. However, it turned out to be one of the worst experiences of my life. The staff is not only unprofessional but unfriendly. During a weekend trip, my wallet was stolen, and I lost the key card to my room. One of the weekly night managers, was completely unsympathetic and unapologetic to the situation. Her condescending attitude made my experience worse, and she made me feel uncomfortable in the place I called home. She refused to give me a new key card and made me feel inferior for requesting a new key. The rest of the staff followed suit. It took weeks for maintenance to come and fix problems in my room. On a Monday, my roommate and I reported that our bathroom toilet was broken. Out of nowhere, we were unable to flush the toilet. The issue was not resolved until Friday of the same week, leaving us without a working toilet for five days. If you are a student, consider living somewhere else. You will be charged a ridiculous fee, and the amenities are not worth it. You'll pay a fee for a cleaning staff that barely cleans the room. Laundry in the building costs over 5 pounds a load. The Chapter King's Cross security allows people to SCREAM outside the building at THREE in the MORNING every night of the week. The staff are incompetent, the amenities are insufficient, and there are much better places to live in London.
Hi guys, I lived at Chapter Kings Cross one year and I m currently living here. I have to say that the main thing that differentiates this building to others is the friendly and chilled atmosphere you get from people working here. I used to live in another accommodation before and, believe me, coming back home after a super busy long day in London every night and having a smile from the guys working in the reception, a laugh with the maintenance guy in the lift, it does make the difference of your day. Above all, I have to say that when I have a problem or an issue, I rely on Chantell, which is always ready to help you with a smile on her face and trying to make things working for you. She does this in a very professional way but also considering the importance of humanity, spontaneity and kindness. I don't know who the manager is but I think she definitely can be a good one due to her attitudes and her professionally always here for the clients.

First of all, I would not waste my time on writing this review if it is not that bad , but you can still come to this accom if you think it suits you. Regarding the room quality, the kitchen wash basin is too small that it can just fit one pot in it, and the location of the tape next to the basin basically restrain you to stack any dishes, so do not even think that you can throw a party and cook lots of food, cause you will end up having a problem to find space fitting in that tiny place. The flush button is problematic, when the toilet lid is up then it basically blocks the whole button and you literally have to take down the lid everytime when you flush the toilet, and the water strength is too strong that it will splash water out to the floor, ridiculous. You know you will bring friends over to spend some quality time. Yes it is good that they have a good security system, but you literally have to register the visitor's name on their system and leave an identity card with them everytime your friend come. When you hand in the ID card , they just spend tons of time in gathering information and identifying your visitors, VERY DISCOURAGING. In addition to the above point, the staffs are not helpful. They always have fun in their little reception corner. They were friendly on the first day, but when everything is settled, then basically you have to take their unprofessionalism and attitude all the time. I have an experience where I needed to wait a male staff to finish replying to his whatsapp group first and served me, totally unprofessional. Females in that place are basically bossing up to you all the time, you just have to wait in the reception until they look up to you from that computer. It seems super normal to take their sassy attitude and their ignorance, not friendly at all ! Moreover, you just have to take the annoyance and NOISES in the building. They dont have any nuisance policy , it means when people running and shouting in the corridor, you just have to take it. The lobby is SUPER NOISY all the time , they keep playing loud music and people shouting to each other when playing pool in early morning. Plus, people will shout in the public garden which makes SO MUCH NOISE, so dont even try to study if you live there. I have had experience that i called a security up to settle the 'loud talking in the corridor in midnight' situation, the security just replied i cant do anything about it , i cant ask them to shut. You just wont get a good sleep. Not to forgot to mention that , if any occasion you lost your key card to your room, then bad luck to you, cause you have to pay 40 for a new card, 25 to reopen your door. Well, what i can say, its a smart 'business' strategy anyway. Adding to this, the elevator broke down all the time, not in service, ordinary check up , it happens frequently. Finally, for this amount of money with these qualities, well, think about it by yourself. GOODLUCK
Stay away from this place ! The Chapter (formerly Nido) as this place is now called is absolutely a piece of trash to live in. I have taken a few pictures as of today which you can see by clicking on the following link and also here are a few points that you should keep in mind while booking this place. http://postimg.org/gallery/zzum5ysi/ 1. Management โ They have no courtesy to their residents and the moment you sign a contract with this place the management takes a whole different stance and try to screw you left, right and center. Currently, the entire building is under construction and the all of the advertised facilities are shut but the management seems to be indifferent and their best reply is โ โSorryโ. They will ask you for every penny you owe them though even when it feels like living in a sh*th*le. 2. Expensive โ Yes, you got it right. You can stay at various other places in London at literally half the price of this building. Not only is the rent expensive but also other facilities like food, laundry, room cleaning, cafรฉ food etc are mind blowingly expensive. 3. Rooms โ The rooms are extremely small. So much that you can hardly walk through the room freely with the chair, bean bag and bed occupying most of the place. The rooms arenโt even clean and there is apparent dirt all around. 4. Staff โ Just like the management, the staff appear to be nice but are indifferent when it comes to helping out its residents when in need. They will just answer โsorry, we canโt do anything about itโ at all times when you do really need help. 5. Facilities โ Yes, there are facilities but do not expect anything more than a couple of pool tables, fusbol tables and table tennis tables. This is all they have and everything advertised in their website is fake. 6. Comfort to residents โ Absolutely NO. My card has been blocked several times for silly reasons and then you have to walk back to the reception to plead to them to allow you inside you own room (FOR WHICH YOU HAVE PAID A BOMB). And all this for little/no reason. They wonโt care about lost money when laundry machines donโt work, loosing money in not functional vending machines/atmโs. Once they told me at 11 pm at night while entering the building and my card wasnโt working that you have to stay out tonight which is in NO GODDAMN way done. 7. Construction โ If you are looking to stay in the building for the next academic year 2016-2017, all I can say is GOOD LUCK !! You can see the pictures that I have taken as of today (June 2016) and the entire building is in shambles. Please do have a look at the pictures (single most important point to convince you of the same) 8. Safety โ While they have a security team with all CCTVโs and all, they have lost a few of my packages. I donโt know if that accounts to much but if there is something important that you order and it gets lost (when the building staff take no responsibility), I have nothing to say. Having said that, CCTVโs are just in the communal areas and none in the room corridors on all floors. 9. Social Life โ Each resident is in a single room so unless you make the effort in communal areas to reach out beyond your friends, this place is pretty unsocial. People hang out in their own groups (predominantly ethnicity based and college based) and rarely move out beyond that. 10. Value for money โ Personal take, this is the single biggest regret of my year at London. I would be much much happier (and of course richer), had I planned to stay somewhere else in other student accommodations or apartments. This is just not worth it and money aside, I personally woudnโt stay here for free too. Pictures as of June 2016 - http://postimg.org/gallery/zzum5ysi/
I am an American student studying here in London for 5 months, and this accommodation was set up for me by my home school. The location is pretty good, only a 5 minute walk from King's Cross, and surrounded by grocery stores and restaurants. The rooms are nice, and you're supplied with a set of dishes. The only bad thing about this accommodation is the incompetent staff and management. I've never had an interaction with a member of staff in which they weren't rude. I've had so many issues regarding laundry & printing. The printer is always broken, as are the washing machines and dryers. To wash and dry a load of laundry is ยฃ5, but the clothing is almost never completely dry. The website we use to top-up our laundry cards no longer accepts American credit cards, but the residents were never notified of this, and now we have no way to do laundry in our building. We have to use a laundromat, which is absolutely unacceptable considering how much we are paying to live here. Every time I try to talk to reception about this issue I am met with a rude, condescending attitude. Living here has been the worst thing about my London experience.
